Jeff Bridges became a pop culture figure when he starred as ‘The Dude’ in the Coen brothers film ‘The Big Lebowski’. Known for his chill, slacker lifestyle, The Dude couldn’t be more different than the real-life Bridges.
For one, the 69-year-old actor is quite the motivated real estate player. He owns an impressive portfolio of properties and seems like he knows what he’s doing buying and selling estates for a profit. One of his latest sells is this historic ranch in Montecito, California.
Spanish Revival Style Estate
Bridges and his wife Susan Geston just listed their Spanish Revival-style estate for $7.995 million. This, after the property, had to be remodeled when a series of mudslides damaged the home.
The couple initially bought the four-acre property in 2014 for $6.85 million. This means that they’re looking at a profit of more than a million dollars should they be able to sell it for their initial asking price. Looking at how well Bridges and Geston did in sprucing up the place, they might just be able to bank on it.
According to sources, the house was restored keeping original furnishings but also adding in more modern details to it. The property was originally built in 1919 by a local architect who finished the home with vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors. Another notable feature of the home is its five-building structure which separates the guesthouse, pool house, main house, carriage house and a horse facility from each other.
Living Like ‘The Dude’
While Bridges is nothing like his famous film persona, his Montecito house makes for a great home for those who are also into a laid-back and chill lifestyle. The place has an overall rustic feel to it from the trees surrounding the house to the five fireplaces inside. Its wooden cabinets and skylights also add to this vibe.
Meanwhile, the master’s bedroom is connected to the shaded backyard by French doors and also has a bay window which makes for a fantastic sitting area to relax. The room’s bathroom has been outfitted with modern features from a glass-enclosed shower and a large walk-in closet for both husband and wife.
It doesn’t end there though. In the back of the main house is a pool with an accompanying pool house equipped with its own office, bathroom, and sauna.
It’s quite obvious that Bridges and Geston really like living and investing in Montecito properties. Just four years ago, they sold their former family home, a five-bedroom villa, for $29.5 million.
They initially bought the property back in 1994 from ‘Footloose’ singer Kenny Loggins and raised their daughters there for years. However, they eventually decided to downsize and move their family to a smaller home just near their old one.
